13 Ways to Get Rid of Cellulite Naturally

If you are one of many women who have cellulite, you’re probably wondering “Will this stuff ever go away?” and “Why me?” I would give you two answers. You are not alone and guess what? You can get rid of cellulite naturally.

Also, as we’re learning from antibiotic-resistant bacteria, natural methods are often best where science continuously fails.

Today, I am going to give you 13 sure-fire all-natural weapons to fight cellulite that really work—especially when combined with exercise and a healthy diet to aid in reducing fat cells, which are the source and the cause of cellulite.

So, what is Cellulite?

Cellulite is nothing more than fat – normal body fat — beneath the skin.  The reason it looks so pockmarked and bumpy is because, as WebMd explains, it is pushing against connective tissue above it, causing it to ripple and develop “dimples.”

The Cellulite-Hormone Connection

Cellulite affects 85-98% of all women that are past menstruation. This is because it is in late adolescence that estrogen reaches a high enough level in a woman’s body for her to begin to menstruate. High estrogen levels contribute to women storing fat in certain areas of the body, like the hips and abdomen – and excess fat under the skin can lead to; you’ve got it, cellulite. Estrogen further exacerbates the problem by affecting our collagen levels, which begin to decrease as we age. Collagen is what makes our skin firm, supple, and gives it its elasticity (that’s why it’s contained in so many cosmetics).

Other causes of cellulite are yo yo dieting and a lack of exercise. So, in addition to the remedies below, light weight lifting and walking can work as well! Anything that helps get rid of fat tissue and shrink fat cells.

But in the meantime, while you try to get healthy, there are some natural ways to fight cellulite, reduce its appearance, and, over time, help it to fade completely from your body.

The Top 13 Ways to Get Rid of Cellulite Naturally

1. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

By now you’re thinking, “is apple cider just plain good for everything?” and it kind of is. See, eventually science always circles around to finding out the methods being used since 400 or 4,000 B.C. are actually best. Apple cider was actually used by Hippocrates, who made the remedy famous. Hippocrates mixed it with honey for wound care and there is new evidence that apple cider vinegar, 15 to 30 ml daily, can aid in weight loss. This amazing You Tube video about losing weight with Apple Cider vinegar will tell you all about it.

Losing weight, of course, will reduce the appearance of cellulite, but apple cider vinegar aids in ridding the body of cellulite in other ways as well. Apple cider works to detoxify the body and regulate the balance of good bacteria in the gut—which rids the body of toxins, helping to slowly eliminate the toxins in the body that cause cellulite.

2. Water, water, water!

water-water-water

It is hard for me to drink a lot of water, I admit. I just love coffee, but once I started really trying to get healthy for good, I started drinking more and more water and less coffee. The results were that I not only lost weight, I noticed a huge reduction in cellulite as well. Dehydration causes cellulite period! If our skin is not hydrated, of course, it gets an aged, somewhat wrinkly look. Most importantly, you’re storing all these toxins in your fat cells instead of flushing them out. Water is the most natural cleanser and detoxifier on earth. Embrace it. Often. You will come to crave it. You can still have your coffee – just drink more water than coffee.

3. Coffee –Sugar Scrubs and Wraps

Speaking of coffee, coffee-sugar scrubs are one of the most highly recommended remedies for cellulite. If fact, fitness guru Jillian Michaels strongly advocates these scrubs to get rid of cellulite. To make a good coffee-sugar scrub, mix 3/4 of a cup of used or wet coffee grounds (I just use wet grounds not used ones to ensure I’m getting a maximum caffeine benefit). Mix these with enough sugar and coconut oil to create a good, abrasive body scrub. Use this after a shower until you feel it “tingle” and then stick around to see immediate cellulite loss. The reason it works is that caffeine, when applied to the skin, both energizes you as it absorbs into your system and tightens the skin. Even if it is temporary effect, it’s great for a day wearing shorts or skirts. If used often enough, it will eventually reduce cellulite from both the abrasion and the repeated stimulation of circulation there.

4. Weight lifting

No pain, no gain. You know the saying. Not that lifting weights will be painful. In fact, I absolutely love it. You get such immediate results in toning and strengthening that you will want to keep on doing it. Do it every other two days for two weeks and I promise, you’ll see a whole new, toned you.

Weight lifting is an aerobic resistance training which burns fat, promising almost immediate loss of cellulite. Try free-weights with lunges for cellulite on the thighs and butt. What I love for immediate toning and loss of cellulite are the leg press machines. You can press more than you think because you’ve got strong bones and muscles in those legs—and you immediately tone the derriere and the thighs.  If you are losing patience walking—add some weight lifting. You’ll be hooked. I like this weighted vest for walking, too.

Peppers of all kinds, hot peppers that is, are being touted as new ways to energize your body, detoxify your system, burn fat, help you lose weight, and to get rid of cellulite. In studies, hot, Cayenne pepper has been shown to stimulate circulation, increase metabolism, and flush toxins from the body. A recent study, for example, confirmed that cayenne pepper acts as thermogenic agent and lipid (fat) burner when ingested. To use, add ½ to 1 tsp. to some hot green tea (also a remedy) with a little honey and lemon juice. For more cayenne pepper recipes, check out our article on the cayenne pepper cleanse!

6. Dry Brushing

What you’ll need is a very good body brush with strong fibers that will really stimulate circulation without harming the surface of the skin.

Milk has been in discussion lately as a necessary ingredient in any weight loss regimen, but it is not really milk, per se, that is behind helping people lose weight. It is Vitamin D. HealWithFood.org notes that “Deficiency of vitamin D has been associated with increased fat accumulation and obesity.” So make sure to try a vitamin D supplement, especially in the winter when we get less sun – a great source of vitamin D. Try Vitamin D gummies if you don’t like swallowing capsules.

I use two magic ingredients to get rid of cellulite. Ballet and more ballet. I installed a short ballet bar and exercise every night. It is relaxing and it w-o-r-k-s. I also swear by a workout called the New York Ballet: The Complete Workout. It blasts cellulite, guaranteed. If you want a body that looks like a ballet dancer, you have to work out like they do. And I don’t know too many ballet dancers, or people who exercise regularly period, who have much cellulite. Right?

Ginger helps to increase oxygen in the system. A lack of oxygen in your system is one of the causes of cellulite. This is why ginger is the perfect herb for cellulite because it is a natural anti-oxidant and bloat-reducing herb. In fact, in 2011, ginger was proven in scientific studies to be a super healthy herb for myriad benefits and is an “antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent, anti nausea compound, and anticancer agent.” Any supplement that helps to rid toxins from the body helps you to flush your system and clean fat cells of toxins making it easier to tighten, firm, and shrink them.

13. Switch your salt (PROVE)

Like I said earlier, hydration is key with metabolism. So, what you want to do is remove any dehydrating elements from your diet and regular table salt is a huge dehydrator. It also causes water retention and inflammation of the body. Try limiting your salt as much as possible – or do what I do. Use “No Salt.” It has no sodium in it and you will look much leaner and suppler when you stop using sodium for just one week. Try it.
